Minister Training

Minister Training from the Universal Life Church

The Universal Life Church Minister Training center aims to educate newly ordained ministers about the basics of being a Universal Life Church minister; regardless of faith, beliefs, or religion. Please take some time to read through the material. As you can imagine, this information is continuously refined and new content will be posted from time to time. We encourage you to revisit the Ministerial Training Center for online updates.

Minister Training

Universal Life Church ministers do not require any formal training to perform their duties. We do not charge a fee for you to get ordained, and treat equally any person called into the ministry, whether it be to officiate one wedding or foster a congregation. The Universal Life Church strongly encourages would-be-ministers to read through the training and educational materials we have prepared for them. These readings will help increase their knowledge of the beliefs of others and, hopefully, their own beliefs as well. For more thorough accounts of many different perspectives, we make available holy books, novels, and guides in our catalog of Minister Supplies.

Universal Life Church (ULC) ministers are expected to be open-minded in their spiritual beliefs and willing to learn about the beliefs of others. We have gathered the necessary training and educational materials to help its ministers fulfill this expectation. So, while there are no mandatory courses required to become a legally ordained minister with the ULC, we highly suggest you read through the aforementioned materials so you can become a better minister.

Marriage Laws

Marriage laws vary from state to state, and we strive to keep these laws up to date. We have compiled a list of all the US states and the laws that govern each state. Please note: these laws may not be accurate, due to ever changing legal system. If you are going to perform a wedding, please contact the office of the county clerk that is issuing the marriage license for the couple and ask them what documentation, if any, is required of you as the wedding officiant. While some locations such as New York City, and the states of Wisconsin and Nevada require packets of paperwork, others will not require anything from the wedding officiant. A vast majority of locations will want something simple such as a notarized letter of good standing, or credentials. Be sure as the wedding officiant that you speak with someone directly at the clerk’s office to account for possible updates to local laws.
