A Bewitching Moon For All to See

A Super Moon occurrence happens when a full or new moon comes closer to our planet than any other time in the year. It often times is 14% bigger and 30% brighter than it usually is. When a Super Moon comes between the Earth and the Sun, it enhances elevated tides that in the past have been accused to have been implemented in causing natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis.
Since this is a rare occasion with the rise of two Super Moons in one month, Pagans refer to the second rising moon as a Black Moon. There are also other names for the second Super Moon in the same month such as Spinner Moon, Finder’s Moon and Secret Moon. This event has significant aspects for the Pagans. Since there are many different sects of Pagans, there are many different beliefs as to how this event should be celebrated. While there are some that belief this event should be kept sacred by withholding any such dealings in rituals, magic, spells or other workings on this day, there are those that believe the opposite.
This special day is an appropriate time to get ordained. Some places of worship such as the Universal Life Church can offer perspective on one’s life and the journey that they must follow. This is a welcoming opportunity to Pagans to take advantage of the rise of the Super Moon to practice and perform sacred traditions and rituals that have been practiced for centuries. When going deep into folklore, common themes and cultures agree on one thing, the Moon has a female persona. Ancient Goddesses such as Lilith, Hellene and Artemis all received their inspiration, influence and power from the Moon. They represented different aspects of the moon, taking on themselves various forms to symbolize this Celestial body. Representing change, mystery, creation, transformation and fertility, this is a time rich for Pagans to make their connections to the moon through prayers, meditation, spells, blessings, healing, sexual intimacy and much more that is ingrained in their ancient religion.
There is no doubt that this event is cause for celebration among Pagans as they welcome the moon back. Although there are many traditions and customs that are unique to each sect of Paganism, there is one thing they all agree on – the Super Moon deserves the utmost respect and worship on her rising night as she displays her power not only on the tides as all fall under her spell.
